Bassett Engineering is excited to announce the completion of the new bridge on McCarty Ridge Road in Elkland Township!
The new bridge replaced a 12-foot steel beam bridge with a 24-ft span, precast concrete arch over an unnamed tributary to Elk Creek just off of State Route 154 in Lincoln Falls.
The bridge consists of precast arch segments with mitered endwalls to account for the skew of the stream with McCarty Ridge Road, precast wing walls designed to promote smooth hydraulic behavior of the curving mountain stream passing through the structure, and structure-mounted guiderail. The project also included 350 LF of roadway regrading and stormwater improvements throughout the area.
The arch, headwalls, wing walls, and wing wall footers were precast concrete. The arch manufacturer also supplied precast concrete forms for the foundations, within which the contractor completed the cast-in-place foundation on site. The foundations for the arches and wing walls were set into the bedrock stream bottom and locked in place with flowable fill. The bridge was capped with precast headwalls with structure-mounted guiderail, and traffic control signage/delineators. Bassett Engineering obtained PennDOT Structural Adequacy approval and DEP permits for each of the structures.
Bassett Engineering designed, bid, and provided construction inspection services while Performance Construction of Postville, PA completed the construction of the new bridge. This project was funded by PennDOT and Elkland Township.
