Project Complete: Altoona Westerly Wastewater Treatment Facility

January 25, 2025 By Britt Bassett

Altoona Water Authority’s Biosolids Treatment Improvements at its Westerly Wastewater Treatment Facility are operating now, processing comingled biosolids and High Strength Organic Waste (HSOW) to generate biogas which is burned in the Digester Biogas Duty Boiler to heat the two fixed-cover Anaerobic Digesters. The Sludge Dryer and Sludge Dryer Heating Boiler are also operational. Altoona Water Authority is working on obtaining its Operating Permit from the DEP Air Quality Program, which will replace the current Plan Approval.
