LRBSA Throop WWTF Aeration Pipeline Replacement

April 12, 2021 By Connor Bassett

Lackawanna River Basin Sewer Authority (LRBSA) received and opened bids for it its Aeration Pipeline Replacement at the Throop Wastewater Treatment Plant project, in early March. LRBSA received a total of nine bids and eventually awarded the contract to JEV Construction for a total project cost of $421,000. The project is scheduled to begin in the near future and is tentatively scheduled for completion in August.

Bassett Engineering was hired by the Authority to design the replacement of the existing process aeration pipe at the WWTP which has historically suffered leaks leading to increased operational costs and decreased efficiency at the plant; the aerated process tanks in particular. The new aeration pipeline uses corrosion resistant materials and is designed to last much longer than its traditional ductile iron predecessor and will offer sustainable improvement in years to come for the Authority. Bassett Engineering looks forward to the continuation of the project and the successful installation of the design.

LRBSA Throop WWTF Upgrades

September 16, 2020 By Bassett Engineering

Bassett Engineering was fortunate enough to be able to work with Lackawanna River Basin Sewer Authority to replace the covers on two 65-foot diameter anaerobic sludge digesters at their wastewater treatment facility in Throop. Digester gas powers two microturbine cogeneration units that generate electricity to reduce Throop’s power consumption. We just closed out the project and here are some key features:

  • Removed screenings, grit and sludge from the digesters and cleaned them to create a safe working environment
  • Two new flexible membrane covers installed that include:
    • two membranes per tank
    • aeration blower packages
    • related gas safety systems
    • all related ancillary work
  • Limited gas and sludge pipe modifications
  • Gas supervisory and control (SCADA) system that includes:
    • new membrane cover control panel
    • instruments and control software
  • Integrated communication between new membrane SCADA system and plant’s existing SCADA system
  • Operational adjustments to balance digester gas output with microturbine gas consumption

Reactor Blower Pipe Replacement

Bassett Engineering is also currently designing the replacement of the main blower pipe supplying air to the biological nutrient removal process. Replacing this pipe will require careful construction sequencing to maintain continuous treatment.

The projects are part of coordinated efforts between the Authority and Bassett Engineering to optimize the performance of the 10.0 mgd plant, which Bassett also assisted in upgrading to its current BNR treatment level in 2009.

Completed Project: Millville Water Line Replacement

March 2, 2020 By Bassett Engineering

Bassett Engineering designed, bid, and supervised construction of the replacement of 750′ of water line for Millville Borough in 2019. The existing 4-inch main was replaced with a 6-inch main and new valves to enhance the operation of the system. The project was completed on a compressed schedule due to the needs of the service connections.

Feel free to contact Bassett Engineering to see if we can help your municipality today!

Water

June 15, 2016 By Natasha Bassett

Laporte Tank 3Bassett Engineering has engineered water storage tanks and force mains, plus distribution systems including pump stations.  We have modeled water distribution systems to identify flow restrictions that can impede fire-fighting.  We have developed surface water supplies on our own, and groundwater supplies with the assistance of hydrogeologists, and engineered treatment plants for both groundwater and surface water.

BE has also provided treatment alternatives analysis, water filtration support and water softening systems, developed water supply wells, and secured permits for many clients throughout NorthCentral Pennsylvania. Representative projects include:

  • Collomsville Mutual Waterworks Association
  • Loyalsock Valley Well
  • Millville Borough
  • Ralston Area Joint Authority
